1950'S RANCH

1950'S RANCH

This 1950s ranch in Atlanta had a kitchen that felt closed off from the rest of the home. A wall separated it from the living area, limiting both the sense of space and the way the clients could entertain. The kitchen also lacked the storage they needed, and two mismatched windows made the room feel visually off balance.

We removed the wall to open the kitchen to the living area and reworked the entire kitchen within the home’s original footprint. The two windows were replaced with one large window centered over the sink, bringing symmetry and more natural light into the room. Cabinetry now extends the full length of the walls in a U-shaped layout, with a generous island at the center.

White cabinetry blends with the surrounding walls to keep the space feeling light and bright. Dolomite countertops add soft gray tones and dramatic natural veining, while waterfall edges on the island bring a more refined finish to the room.

What I love most is how much larger the entire living space feels without adding square footage. The new kitchen feels as though it belongs in the original ranch, but completely changes the way the home is experienced.
